Zero Waste Hoyas

As part of Earth Month 2017, the Georgetown Environment Initiative and the University’s Office of Sustainability are teaming up with a network of campus partners to spark and support a campus-wide effort accelerating the adoption of green practices at campus events.

In support of this effort we are launching Zero Waste Hoyas, a small-scale pilot project this April to prototype a “sustainable materials pipeline” for events, from the purchase of recyclable and compostable event supplies through the productive end use of the materials.

For a limited number of campus events this April, Zero Waste Hoyas will provide partial funding toward the purchase of compostable supplies and will provide a simple process to sort, recycle and compost any discarded wastes from the events.

We invite interested student groups and University departments and centers to join in this effort by partnering to host “green events” this spring, helping test this materials pipeline.

Event planners interested in participating can start the process by filling out this short Google form (new window).

The Zero Waste Hoyas pilot will also generate a set of findings and lessons learned that will be shared with key Georgetown stakeholders and will help inform a longer-term effort to support green practices at campus events.
