Large containers are placed in the brick plaza near the trash corral for your recyclables. You may take your glass, plastic, aluminum and paper items to this location.
Copley, Darnall & Harbin Halls
Blue recycling stations are located in the community rooms on each floor in Copley, Darnall and Harbin Halls. These bins are monitored and collected by the custodial staff.
Recyclables: Recycling facilities are located next to the central trash chute on the plaza area near the Leavey walkway. Henle Village recycling facilities include basic recycling for common materials and additional containers for large, flattened cardboard boxes such as pizza and packing boxes.
Trash: All trash items must be placed in the chute. Please do not use bags any larger than the tall white kitchen size. Absolutely NO green lawn and leaf bags! Do not overfill or the chute will jam. Pizza boxes and other cardboard boxes larger than a shoe box will also jam the chute – not to mention, they’re recyclable! A chute jam prevents other residents from disposing of their trash. The resulting pile of trash on the ground is not only smelly and unsightly, but also attracts vermin.

LXR, Nevils, Walsh
Blue recycling stations are located in the community rooms on all floors. Larger central collection containers are located in the trash rooms in the Nevils basement and in LXR on the first floor by the iron gate. To help prevent contamination, please place your recyclables in the proper containers as labeled.

In buildings maintained by University custodial staff, containers are provided by the University for trash and recyclables. Please follow the separation guidelines for the residence halls above. Non-University properties are served by the DC Department of Public Works.
Village A, Lower Level
Trash: This area is served by a trash chute. All trash items must be placed in the chute. Please do not use bags any larger than the tall white kitchen size. Absolutely NO green lawn and leaf bags!!
Recyclables: Containers for recyclables are located adjacent to the trash chute. There are additional containers here for large pizza boxes and cardboard boxes. Please empty boxes of packing materials and flatten them before placing in the container.
Village A, Upper Level
This area is served by containers for trash and recyclables. Containers are situated in alcoves between buildings. These containers are emptied daily around 7:30 am. Please try to have your trash out in time to be collected so that it does not sit on the ground. If the containers are filled, such as on a weekend, you may take your trash and/or recyclables to the lower level trash chute or the Healy trash corral. Please do not place any bags on the ground, as this attracts vermin.
Village C East and West
Blue recycling stations are located in the hallways and also by the residence hall entrances in both buildings. Custodians collect the recycling from the containers in these buildings.
(See “LXR/Nevils/Walsh” above)
Academic and Administrative Buildings
Blue recycling centers are located centrally on each floor of all administrative and academic buildings. These centralized collection containers are regularly emptied by recycling staff. Recyclable materials disposed of in other types of containers will, in general, not be resorted and recycled.
The blue recycling centers provide separate bins for three types of recyclable materials, and a fourth bin for regular trash. To the extent possible, please place all normal types of recyclable materials into these proper collection bins.
In addition, individual offices have been supplied with blue deskside recycling containers. Faculty and staff can use these blue containers to separate the recyclable material generated in their offices, such as paper waste and beverage containers. Individuals should, periodically, empty their individual blue containers into a recycling center bin on their floor as needed, sorting the materials into the proper bins.
Please call the Recycling Office at 202-687-2033 if you need a blue container for your office, cannot locate a recycling center on your floor, have any other problem with recycling or have a question regarding what types of materials can be recycled.
Outdoors / Campus Grounds
BigBelly recycling bins are located outdoors, at over twenty prominent locations around campus grounds. These bins offer collection for glass/plastic/aluminum containers, and for paper.
Leased Space on Wisconsin Avenue
If you work in leased space on Wisconsin, the Georgetown recycling department does not service your building. Your best bet is to ask your administrative assistant or office manager about the recycling procedure in your building. If he or she doesn’t know, have an appropriate member of your office contact the building manager to find out what they recommend in terms of recycling. For help troubleshooting, feel free to contact the Sustainability Coordinator at x7-4284.
